My wife and I are a Vietnamese-Korean couple. My

wife just gave birth to a boy and we intend to register Vietnamese citizenship

for him. Could you tell me about the procedures for changing my son’s family name and/or given name on his birth certificate?

Could you tell me about the procedures for changing my son’s family name and/or given name on his birth certificate?A dossier of application for change of a person’s family name and/or given name in his birth certificate must contain the following papers:- A filled-in declaration form for change of name and the original birth certificate of the person whose name is to be changed;- Relevant papers serving as grounds for the change .At the time of dossier submission, if your son is under 18 years old, the dossier submitter will be you and your wife. In this case, the dossier will be submitted at the Justice Section of the commune-level People’s Committee where you and your wife have made birth registration for your son, if he is aged under 14 years, or the Single-Window Section of the district-level People’s Committee of the locality where your son’s birth registration was made, if the son is aged between full 14 years and under 18 years. In case your son has reached full 18 years at the time of requesting change of name, he himself will submit the dossier at the district-level People’s Committee of the locality where you and your wife have made birth registration for him or where he is residing. The dossier processing result will be informed to the dossier submitter within three working days after a complete and valid dossier is received. If finding the application for change of name is well-grounded and compliant with the civil law and relevant laws, a legal affairs officer will record the change of name the back of the original birth certificate of the person whose name is changed. In case verification is required, the above-said time limit may be extended to six working days. The dossier submitter will be required to pay a fee which, however, varies between localities depending on local conditions.-
